Canada / Alaska trip begins

Sydney_AirportWell off overseas again to Canada and Alaska.  Only covering British Columbia and Alberta parts of Canada.  Canberra isn’t an international airport so the normal departure day starts with a 6am flight from Canberra to Sydney as North American flights normally leave at around 10am from Sydney.  Not this time.  Decided to fly to Sydney a day early Rydges_Sydney_Airport

and staying at the beautiful  Rydges Sydney Airport hotel.  So tomorrow I can get up at a more reasonable hour, have breakfast and then walk across the road to checkin for my international flight.  The excitement has been brewing for the last month.  Stay tuned.

Dinner in style

Sun 21 April. The CA World 2013 conference started today.  The day ended with an invite out to dinner with the CA Community committee.  We went to the Top of the Town restaurant in the stratosphere tower.  Nice surprise was the vehicle we went in.  It wasn’t just a stretch limo. It was more of a stretch truck.

Off to dinner in style

Trip to the Grand Canyon

Hualapai Indian - Eagle Point - Grand CanyonSat 20th April. Took a trip out to the Grand Canyon from Vegas. The tour went to the West Rim.  This side is a Hualapai Indian reservation and is better for viewing and less commercialised than the other rims.  There are no barrier at the edge yet they have had no people fallen over compared to around 20 on the other rims.  They were in full native clothing to celebrate their anniversary.

Also stopped in a Joshua Tree forest.  Was only allowed to get pictures of Hoover Dam as we drove past as they have restricted access since 9/11 to only one tour.

Off to Las Vegas

Fri 19th April it’s time to pack up and head to Las Vegas. I decided to take this leg of the journey with Lux Bus America and it was well worth it. It was interesting to see the change in environment as I went from California into the Mojave desert.  The only thing growing there are small shrubs and the Joshua tree, welcome to Nevada.

Saw a couple of solar farms along the way.
